The federal forecasting agency plans to restore some of its losses from this year鈥檚 Trump administration cuts.

Experts at NOAA updated their prediction for the Atlantic on Thursday. Forecasters say there could be up to nine hurricanes before the end of November.

South Florida TV forecaster John Morales said he was not confident he could predict the paths of storms this year, touching a nerve amid concerns about how federal cuts could affect hurricane season.

After losing nearly 600 employees to layoffs and retirements as part of the Trump administration鈥檚 sweeping cuts to the federal workforce, the National Weather Service is planning to hire additional staff members to 鈥渟tabilize鈥� the department, a spokesperson said.
