Federal investigators have found that the deadly collapse of a Florida beachfront condominium actually started weeks before it left a massive pile of rubble. The 2021 collapse in the middle of the night left 98 people dead. The National Institute of Standards and Technology said in a report released Monday that two connections between garage columns and the pool deck started to fail in early June.

Yusiel Lopez Insua, 46, of Miami, faces a charge of seaman’s manslaughter in the July collision, according to a statement from U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida.
