A Florida House panel Wednesday backed a proposal to eliminate a requirement that the state鈥檚 two remaining thoroughbred tracks hold races to be able to offer other types of gambling.

Gulfstream Park Racing Association has filed a lawsuit arguing that a requirement that the South Florida thoroughbred track conduct races to maintain its lucrative slot-machine operations is an unconstitutional 鈥渟pecial law鈥� that 鈥渢horoughly undermines鈥� its ability to compete with other parimutuels.
