Broward County鈥檚 COVID-19 Business Complaint Dashboard Is Still Receiving Complaints

Broward County鈥檚 Planning and Development Management Division launched a COVID-19 business complaint last June where people can anonymously report businesses that are violating CDC guidelines like wearing masks and maintaining social distance 鈥 and it's still active.

Jo Sesodia, the director of the county's planning and development management division, says Broward has received more than 17,000 complaints against businesses since last June.

However, the dashboard only shows pending complaints, ones that received warnings or citations, and those that were deemed 鈥渞esolved鈥 by code enforcement officers.

鈥淏ecause we don鈥檛 want to have businesses out there with essentially allegations against them that were not founded,鈥 Sesodia said.

She also says the county received the most complaints in July and August. That was when Broward saw the largest spike in COVID-19 cases, according to . Since then, Sesodia says there鈥檚 been a steady stream of reports still coming in.

鈥淚t鈥檚 the first time the county has done something that鈥檚 been as large as this using crowdsource data,鈥 she said. 鈥淚t really is driven by our citizens reporting and our municipalities responding.鈥

To anonymously report a business, you can call Broward鈥檚 311 hotline from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to noon on weekends.
