Miami-Dade Mayor Gimenez Tests Negative For COVID-19 After Attending Event With Brazilian Official

Miami Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez went into self isolation Thursday, March 12, 2020, over concerns he had been exposed to coronavirus from an aide to the president of Brazil. The following day, Gimenez said his COVID 19 test returned negative.

Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez said Friday he tested negative for COVID-19, four days after attending a Miami event with a Brazilian official who later tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

鈥淢y result was negative,鈥� Gimenez said by text Friday morning. Even so, Gimenez said he plans to remain self-isolated for up to 14 days.

鈥淭his virus may take a little bit longer to manifest itself. I鈥檓 negative. I feel fine,鈥� Gimenez said Friday during an interview with Paul Castronovo on Big 105.9. 鈥淎t this point, I鈥檓 going to stay in isolation.鈥�
