Miami Schools Shorten Quarantines To 10 Days. Those Vaccinated Don鈥檛 Have To Quarantine

Effective Monday, students and staff at Miami-Dade County Public Schools who are identified as 鈥渃lose contacts鈥� with a presumed positive COVID case will only have to quarantine for 10 days instead of two weeks.
Those who are fully vaccinated, are asymptomatic and do not live in a group home do not have to quarantine at all and can stay at their school or worksite, according to new guidelines announced to staff, students and families over the weekend.
Also among the changes: Asymptomatic individuals may end their quarantine after 10 days without testing and can return to their school or worksite. Quarantined individuals must continue to monitor their symptoms until 14 days after exposure. If an individual develops symptoms, they must immediately self-isolate and contact their healthcare provider.

When the first bell rings each day, roughly 69,000 Palm Beach County public school students log in from home and follow the academic day hour-by-hour in step with their in-person counterparts.
But that will not be an option when the district pivots to campus-based instruction next fall.
District leaders are directing students who aren't ready to give up remote learning by Aug. 10 to enroll instead in Palm Beach Virtual School (PBVS), a franchise of Florida Virtual School (FLVS) that's been around for more than a decade.

North Miami Beach Apologizes After Mayor鈥檚 Vaccine Invite Ripples Across Latin America

North Miami Beach Mayor Anthony DeFillipo caused a stir that shot across Latin America this weekend after he said in an interview Friday that international tourists could come to his city to get the COVID-19 vaccine, adding that 鈥渢housands and thousands鈥� had already done so 鈥� despite state rules that restrict the vaccine to Florida residents only.
On Monday, he tried to walk back his words, and the city apologized in a statement for 鈥渁ny confusion鈥� the mayor had caused. But by that point, the information had already reached major news sites and WhatsApp chats at home and abroad.
